Volterra, Dal Globale Al Locale

Volterra, From Global To Local
In recent days between the Expo and Fuori Expo (Outside Expo), Volterra's entire repertoire of history, nature, art, technology and good living has been on display. From the large showcase, which is Milan's global Expo to the many displays in Volterra, reflected in the beauty of the city and countryside made-up of villages and landscapes, ranging from the hinterland to the sea, as if tentatively finding the right balance for lovers of both. An explosion of different shapes and colors, especially at this time of year when the sun has already turned the heads of flowers in the photo, a picture taken between 'Casino di Terra' and the town of Casaglia, a medieval village nestling in a panoramic position of the Cecina Valley.

A place we recommend visiting, one in which time seems to have stood still. A place that now only becomes populated when it’s time to celebrate one of the many weddings that take place there. You can get to Casaglia by leaving the SR68 and taking the SP14 towards Miemo. The place has elements of great architectural and urban interest. The Parish of St. John the Baptist and the Castle are most definitely worth a visit. Together with the Val di Sterza Castles, (Querceto, the Sassa and Canneto) they come to form one of the most beautiful spots in the area. Villages that have since been abandoned come alive again in the summer with tourists drawn to the shows and local festivals for which Tuscany has always been famous.
